The 1st Constitutional Amendment Act of 1951 was brought in to overcome multiple judicial pronouncements (such as the State of Madras v. Champakam Dorairajan, Romesh Thappar v. State of Madras) regarding fundamental rights. It introduced limitations on freedom of speech, validated zamindari abolition laws, and introduced the Ninth Schedule to protect laws from judicial review.
