🏭 Fostering Innovation in the Boiler Industry

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) (Ministry of Commerce and Industry), in association with the National Productivity Council (NPC), organized a ‘Chintan Shivir on Boilers’ in Hyderabad.

The core objective of the Shivir was to foster innovation, review policy implementation, and align strategies with long-term national goals, specifically "Vision 2047", by engaging key stakeholders across the ecosystem.

📜 Policy Milestone: The Boilers Act, 2025

A major focal point of the Shivir was the transition from pre-Constitution legislation to a modern regulatory framework. Because boilers operate under extreme pressure and temperatures, regulating them is critical for the safety of life and property.

⚖️ Legislative Update
The Government of India reviewed the antiquated Boilers Act, 1923. Recognizing its critical role in safety, the legislation was retained but heavily updated and re-enacted as the Boilers Act, 2025.
📅 Operational Date
The new Boilers Act, 2025, has been officially operational since 1 May 2025.

⚙️ Technical Sessions & Key Discussions

The Chintan Shivir featured dedicated technical sessions addressing modern industrial challenges and regulatory compliance:

  • Ageing Infrastructure: Sessions were held on the Remnant Life Assessment of ageing boilers to ensure continued safety.
  • Advanced Tech: Discussions covered advanced technologies in boiler manufacturing and the specific challenges faced during the erection of supercritical boilers.
  • Ease of Doing Business: Stakeholders, including Third-Party Inspecting Authorities (TPIAs), focused on rationalizing rules to reduce the compliance burden without compromising safety standards.
