The Government of India officially launched the Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 on 10.07.2025. This comprehensive policy is designed to build a strong, inclusive, and performance-driven sports ecosystem. Its core vision is "Sports for Nation Building: Harness the Power of Sports for Nation's Holistic Development", focusing on integrating sports into the fabric of national growth.
To strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure and support early talent identification across both urban and rural India.
Ensuring access for Women, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and economically weaker sections to bridge the rural-urban gap.
Promotes the integration of sports with school education to encourage community participation.
Investments in modern sports infrastructure and structured training systems for high-level athlete preparation.
The policy operates within the constitutional framework where responsibility is shared:
- State Responsibility: 'Sports' is a State Subject; thus, primary promotion rests with State/UT Governments.
- Union Role: The Union Government supplements these efforts through schemes aligned with the National Sports Policy.
- Evaluation: Performance and impact are assessed through third-party evaluations per Department of Expenditure guidelines.
This framework was detailed by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. The full policy details are available in the public domain at yas.nic.in.
