The state of Assam is set to witness a landmark event in national security infrastructure. On 14 February 2026, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India will inaugurate the first-ever Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in the North East region. Located on the Moran bypass in the Dibrugarh district, this facility marks a significant step in enhancing the strategic air connectivity of the region.
The ELF is capable of handling emergency landing and take-off operations for a wide range of aircraft, including fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters.
Beyond defence, the facility will be instrumental during Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, providing access to far-flung areas during emergencies.
Situated on the National Highway near Moran, this identified stretch serves as an alternative runway during contingencies.
The event will be witnessed by the Governor and Chief Minister of Assam, alongside senior civil and military dignitaries.
The Ministry of Defence stated, "The occasion holds profound significance towards National Security and would be witnessed by the Hon'ble Prime Minister... The facility opens an identified stretch on the highway as an alternative runway during contingencies."
