The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) has achieved a significant milestone in its journey to alleviate rural poverty. As of December 2025, the mission has successfully mobilized over 10.05 crore rural households into a vast network of community institutions. This massive mobilization has resulted in the formation of 90.91 Lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs), creating a robust platform for financial independence and social empowerment across India's hinterlands.

The Role of Bank Sakhis
To bridge the gap between rural women and formal banking institutions, the mission has deployed Bank Sakhis directly at bank branches. Their primary responsibilities include:
- Identifying eligible SHGs for credit linkage.
- Assisting in the preparation and submission of loan applications.
- Conducting monthly follow-ups on pending loan proposals to ensure faster processing.
Community Based Recovery Mechanism (CBRM)
A specialized system known as CBRM has been institutionalized at bank branches. This mechanism is crucial for ensuring the timely repayment of loans, thereby maintaining the creditworthiness of SHGs and ensuring the sustainability of the lending cycle.
Beyond basic savings and credit, DAY-NRLM focuses on fostering rural entrepreneurship. Under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) component, the government has supported 5.88 lakh enterprises. This initiative helps rural households transition from subsistence to running viable local businesses.
